Exhibition – Sight Specific: The Art of Community

Sight Specific: The Art of Community
September 5th – October 7th, 2018
Opening Reception: Wednesday, September 19, 5:00-7:00 pm
Panel Discussion: Wednesday, September 19, 4:00-5:00pm

The College of New Jersey Art Gallery is pleased to present Sight Specific: The Art of Community, an exhibition celebrating the work of local artists Jonathan “Lank” Conner, Bentrice Jusu, Tamara Torres, and Andrew Wilkinson, students in AAV 370: Community-Engaged Art, and the art projects they developed in collaboration with the Trenton Community in the Spring of 2018.

Through participation in the project, students developed an understanding of the dialogue and process required to create meaningful public art in collaboration with a community and with sensitivity to the particular needs and issues of the city of Trenton in particular and the broader County of Mercer in general. The exhibition documents the process and the culminating projects developed and executed by the students in collaboration with local leaders and community organizers. The work of the mentor-artists will also be featured in the exhibition.

Join artists, students, and TCNJ faculty for a panel discussion chaired by TCNJ Assistant Professor of Art Education Carolina Blatt on Wednesday, September 19 from 4:00-5:00pm.  An opening reception and celebration will immediately follow the panel discussion. All events are held in the AIMM Building, The College of New Jersey, 2000 Pennington Road, 08628.
