On Friday, November 7, from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. in Mayo Concert Hall in the Music Building, Caldecott Award-winning artist E. B. Lewis will speak about Exploring an Artist’s Craft. His lecture is being presented in conjunction with the exhibition A Visual Voyage: Exploring the Media and Styles of Award-Winning Children’s Illustrators, which is on view in TCNJ’s Art Gallery through December 14. There will be special open hours on November 7 from 1:30 to 2:30, following the lecture.
Earl Bradley (E. B.) was born in Philadelphia. He studied art at Temple University’s Tyler School of Art, where he majored in graphic design, illustration, and art education. After graduating, he taught art in public schools for twelve years. Currently, he teaches at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia and continues to paint and illustrate. He is a member of The Society of Illustrators in New York City.
Lewis has illustrated more than 60 books for children, and has received a Caldecott Honor Award, several Coretta Scott King Illustrator Awards, and an ALA Notable Book award. His paintings in TCNJ’s exhibition include the cover image of his first children’s book from 1994, Fire on the Mountain, and four watercolors from his most recent book, All Different Now: Juneteenth, the First Day of Freedom, published this year.
