Screening of Bad Things Happen in Philadelphia with Award-winning Filmmaker Kyra Knox

In conjunction with the TCNJ Gallery exhibition, Futures Without Guns, the Department of Communication, Journalism, and Film and the Student Film Union (SFU) are pleased to announce a screening of Bad Things Happen in Philadelphia followed by a Q & A with filmmaker Kyra Knox. This award-winning feature documentary explores the impact of gun violence in Philadelphia and the community’s efforts to combat it. The documentary focuses on three teenagers—Wynter, David, and Kalil—who are striving to transcend this violence and work toward a more hopeful future through the power of basketball and the community organization “Shoot Basketballs NOT People.” According to the director, ,”I hope sharing their passion will resonate and drive even more positive and necessary change.”
The screening will be followed by a Q + A with the award-winning producer and director. Knox’s work has been featured in Deadline, The Hollywood Reporter, Vibe Magazine, NPR’s Morning Edition, Axios, Filmmaker Magazine, and other publications. The film premiered at the prestigious American Black Film Festival and has since garnered critical acclaim, winning honors at The Philadelphia Film Festival, The Micheaux Film Festival, and the Harlem Hip Hop Festival.
